Our ancient city of Bursa, which has been home to many civilizations throughout history, is a place where people from different cultures live, and it remains one of the most important trade hubs today, continuing to hold its significance. It possesses significant potential in terms of products eligible for geographical indication.
While there were 8 products with geographical indications in our province by the end of 2018, this number has now reached a total of 29, including 18 with geographical indications and 11 with origin indications. Thus, our province ranks first in the Marmara Region in terms of the number of geographical indications it possesses.
With the increased awareness on this issue in our province, and with the initiative and extensive contributions of municipalities, chambers of commerce and industry, commodity exchanges, chambers of agriculture, and cooperative unions, 17 of our products have been registered as geographical indications since 2021. Gemlik Olive and Bursa Black Fig are our products that have received EU geographical indication status. In addition, applications for registration with the EU have been submitted for İnegöl Köfte, Bursa Peach, and most recently, Bursa Chestnut Candy.
